In the Set Up Product Driven Order Entry system option, a high and low waste factor can be set which serves as a security feature that will limit access into the Inventory file. Let's look at the Low and the High areas.
The Product Drive O/E Roll Pre-Select Values are determined by Square Foot Calculations.
Low
This value represents the amount of material on a roll that you are willing to "throw away" or scrap.
For example, let’s say 2 is entered as the value for this field.
When entering a customer order line that consists of a roll of carpet or vinyl you will select from Roll Products. Let’s say you select Style "Beautiful", Color "Eggshell" and the amount needed for this particular order is 50 square yards. The system will search for rolls that you have in stock that will leave more than 2 square yards and/or no less that whatever value is entered in the High field.
Three are 3 rolls of Beautiful - The most appropriate of these three selections will be highlighted. You may choose any of the rolls that appear in this browse box; you are not confined to simply choose the highlighted selection.
High
This value represents the amount of material that needs to remain on a roll after a job/order is complete.
For example, let’s say that you enter 12 as the value for this field. When you are entering a customer order line that consists of a roll of carpet or vinyl, you will select from Roll Products. You select, like in the example above, Beautiful - Eggshell. You need 75 square yards to complete this order. The system will search for rolls that you have in stock that will leave you with no less than 12 square yards on a roll and/or no more than the value that you have entered in the Low Value field (for this example let’s allow this number to remain 2).
These values are designed to assist in minimizing the amount of waste and gaining more control over inventory.
