A credit card pre-authorization lets you reserve an amount on a customer's credit card before a quote becomes an order.
An authorization is not a payment. The credit card processor approves the amount and places a hold on the customer's card, but RFMS does not collect the money yet.
The authorization is valid for seven calendar days. You must use it as payment within that time.
Where You Can Authorize a Card
RFMS supports credit card authorizations from a quote in two ways:
- Send the customer a request through My Flooring Link so they can enter their card information remotely. See Request a Credit Card Pre-Authorization with My Flooring Link.
- Authorize the card directly in RFMS Mobile. See Preauthorize a Credit Card on a Quote in RFMS Mobile.
A supported credit card payment solution must be set up in RFMS before you can use either method.
Use the Authorization as Payment
The authorized amount is not collected until you use the authorization as payment.
How this happens depends on where you started the authorization:
- In RFMS Core Order Entry, convert the quote to an order and use the authorization as the credit card payment.
- In RFMS Mobile, RFMS collects the authorized payment when you export the quote to an order.
Use the authorization within seven calendar days of receiving it.
Cyncly Payments Surcharge
If your business uses Cyncly Payments and has surcharge enabled, an eligible credit card authorization may include a surcharge.
Cyncly Payments calculates the surcharge from the amount being authorized and includes it in the total authorization. RFMS saves the surcharge information with the authorization, but the authorized amount and surcharge are not collected until the authorization is captured as payment.
You do not calculate or add the surcharge yourself.
See Cyncly Payments Surcharge: Eligibility and Requirements for surcharge eligibility and calculation rules.
